UCLES EFL Exams


The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) was established as a department of Cambridge University in order to set a standard of efficiency for schools in England covering a wide range of academic and vocational subjects specially designed for the international market.

Examinations in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) started at UCLES in 1913, with the

Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE)

This was followed by:

Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

First Certificate in English (FCE)

Preliminary English Test (PET)

Key English Test (KET)

Cambridge Young Learners English (YLE):

Cambridge Starters Exam

After having completed 100 hours of learning English.

Cambridge Movers Exam

After having completed approximately 175 hours of English learning English.

Cambridge Flyers Exam

After having completed approximately 250 hours of English learning English.
