The principle objective of a Self-Access Centre (SAC) is to help students of English become autonomous in their learning of the language. A SAC enables them to do this by providing freedom of choice over what they wish to study, what they need to immediately improve, the monitoring of their progress and the addressing of their long-term goals according to their ever-changing linguistic abilities.

The SAC can be the learning centre for students who do not have time to attend regular classes due to other studies or work schedules. It is also a useful tool for those students who want to progress quicker than regular classes allow, improve certain skills that they feel they lack, and help to consolidate language taught in their regular classes.

A SAC offers the students a wide variety of learning tools through both high and low technology, such as Internet, multimedia PCs, TV and video, interactive audio cassette players, through to a range of didactic materials covering the four macroskills, all this in an open learning evironment, tastefully decorated and laid out.

The British Centre takes care of the whole process needed to develop a SAC in your installations, from the design to the completed installation, and recommends suppliers for all construction work, decorations, fixtures, fittings and didactic materials.

We also provide you with the necessary training up of your staff and an academic infrastructure to get you started. On-going consultancy will help you to tailor your centre to meet your needs and those of your students.
